Diaconate Ordination (30th June 2024)

The role of a deacon is to minister compassion and serve as a witness of Christ’s love.

Indeed, it was a magnificent day of joy and blessing in St. Pius X College, Goregaon, Mumbai (Archdiocesan Seminary of Bombay), when Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bombay, ordained eleven seminarians as deacons on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

The preparations for the Diaconate ordinations began with a meaningful prayer service conducted by a group of 3rd year theologians the previous evening. The Ordinandi took the Oath of Office, the Vow of Celibacy and the Promise of Obedience to the Diocesan Bishop.

The theme chosen by the Ordinandi was, 'Let all that you do be done in love.’ Of the eleven deacons, one was for the diocese of Sindhudurg, and ten were for the Archdiocese of Bombay. At the Ordination mass Bp. Dominic Savio emphasized the role of service in the ministry of the deacon.

Following the Holy Eucharist, was a fellowship program and meal for the newly ordained and their families. Fr. Gilbert De Lima, the Rector of the Seminary, Fr. John Barretto, the Vice rector, and the other staff members greeted and felicitated the newly ordained deacons during the program.

May God pour out His abundant graces and blessings upon these newly ordained deacons so that they may be able to dedicate their lives to the church, reaching out and ministering their service to the people of God.
